Submission Desk
The Submission Desk
Have something to say? Pitch it.
The Outlier publishes guest work. If you have a sharp argument, an unusual angle, or a piece of research worth sharing - pitch it. The bar is high but the door is open.
What we are looking for
Topics we cover: Statistics, Fashion, Food, Books, Essays, Cinema, Music, Random (anything you might want to write about).
The common thread is a point of view. We are not looking for summaries or overviews. We want writing that argues something, notices something, or explains something that you could not find anywhere else.
Good pitches have one of three qualities:
- expertise (you know this subject deeply);
- experience (you lived something worth writing about);
- or a genuinely unusual angle.
Pieces should be between 600 and 3,000 words. Listicles and press releases are not welcome.
Submit your pitch
Not a full draft - a pitch. Two or three paragraphs: what the piece is about, why it matters, why you are the right person to write it. Use the form below.
Every pitch gets a response - yes, no, or "interesting but here is what is missing." We do not ghost pitches.
Once commissioned, you write the full draft. We are available for questions and structural feedback throughout.
Fact-checking, line editing, feedback rounds until both parties are satisfied. Your voice stays yours.
Your piece goes live with your full byline, author bio, and a link to wherever you want readers to find you. Shared across The Outlier's channels and newsletter. You own your work.
